Academics

Four adults smile together at a table decorated with Thurgood Marshall Middle School items.

Our curriculum includes a focus on foundational subjects of English, science, social studies and math, with opportunities for students to receive the support and challenge they need to prepare them for high school.

Advanced Courses

  • Honors ELA & Math (7th and 8th grades)
  • High School Spanish I (8th grade)
  • Integrated Math 1 (8th grade)
  • Environmental Sciences (8th grade)

Career exploration classes include physical education, band, music production, dance, art, and culinary arts. Students also take computer science before completing middle school.

We practice blended learning, meaning students are exposed to both traditional classroom instruction and technology-driven instruction, which helps prepare them for digitally administered courses in high school and beyond.

AVID, or Advancement via Individual Determination, is in place to provide extra scholastic support to those students who seek it, while standard tutoring is also offered to all students both during and after the school day. The GATE program is in place to challenge and support our gifted and talented students.

In addition, each year all students will have the opportunity to complete an Independent Study/PBL Project of their choosing. In the spring, students will present their projects and receive feedback.

To extend educational support out into our community, tutoring is offered through our after-school programs.
